A thunderstorm over Lamar County in extreme West Alabama is beginning to look suspicious and a warning is possible at any time if it continues to grow.

At noon, there were several thunderstorms over NW Alabama. The Lamar storm was by far the strongest.

However, the main line of thunderstorms extends from near Waterloo (about as far as you can go in the NW corner of Alabama) down across NE and Central Mississippi. Several Severe Thunderstorm Warnings have been posted over in Mississippi. One of the latest ones was for parts of Choctaw, Carroll, Montgomery and Webster Counties in North/Central Mississippi.

Further north, a Tornado Warning was issued for the area around Lawrenceburg, Tennessee until 12:15. The possible tornado was moving NE at 47 mph.

Back home in Alabama, the Tornado Watch continues until 4:00 this afternoon for 18 counties in NW and West Alabama. Let’s repeat them again:
Colbert
Cullman
Fayette
Franklin
Greene
Hale
Lamar
Lauderdale
Lawrence
Limestone
Madison
Marion
Morgan
Pickens
Sumter
Tuscaloosa
Walker
Winston

While this Tornado Watch does not include the immediate Birmiingham area, it does include counties as nearby as: Cullman, Walker and Tuscaloosa. There is a good chance that the watch may be extended further eastward. Also, with individual thunderstorms flowing out ahead of the main line, there could be some warnings for the Birmingham area before 4:00.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING
NWS/Huntsville has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the west part of both Colbert and Lauderdale Counties in extreme NW Alabama until 12:45. The storm was located 14 miles west of Cherokee and moving NE at 40 mph. It may have penny-size hail. It will affect these areas also:
Riverton
Cherokee
The Natchez Trace Parkway
Wright

Stay tuned for updates as needed throughout the afternoon and tonight. While the entire state is under a Slight Risk for severe weather, please do not misinterpret the word “slight.”
