A weakening upper trough will bring the chance of a few scattered showers to Alabama tomorrow morning, but it sure won’t make a dent in the big rain deficit for the year. The models are drier; the NAM is down to 0.03″ for Birmingham, while the GFS shows 0.11″. I sure get the idea many places will miss the showers completely, and where they develop rainfall amounts will be very light. The best chance of showers will come from about 4:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon tomorrow.
THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY: These four days will feature delightful spring weather, with mostly sunny mild days and clear cool nights. High will generally be in the 70s, with low in the 40s. But, some spots might reach 80 degrees on Saturday and Sunday.
NEXT WEEK: The weather gets interesting again next week. And, wet at times. Potentially stormy. The 12Z run of the GFS now holds off the first batch of rain and storms until Wednesday (April 25). Then, a stronger system develops with more rain and storms over the following weekend (April 28-29). That one could bring the risk of strong to severe storms to Alabama if the model is correct. So, looks like NASCAR fans might have to dodge some raindrops at Talladega. But, I caution you this is still in voodoo country, and there is no way to resolve the timing or details of those rain events.
LONG RANGE: The GFS also hints at another major nor’easter for New England in the April 29-30 time frame, with another sharp change to colder weather for Alabama during those days. But, with the long days and good sun angle, cold snaps in late April and early May don’t last long, and we tend to warm up quickly during the day, even with cold nights.
