For the second time since June 1, temperatures have reached the 50s across much of northern and central Alabama the past two mornings (it reached 49 yesterday morning in Cherokee County). These temperatures are rare in July. Looking at weather records for Birmingham since 1895, it has only reached the 50s 41 times in July, out of 3,500 July days. This means the cool air yesterday morning was in roughly the 99th percentile, for you statistics people. It’s not quite like hitting for the cycle in baseball (the chance of that in the major leagues is only about 0.01%, based on statisics), but it’s nice.

Some morning lows around the state:

Talladega 54
Gadsden 55
BHM Airport 61
Tuscaloosa 58
Millport 50
Clay 58
Alex City 55
Auburn 61
Troy 59

I try to do JB Elliott-like numbers posts sometimes, but mine are not quite as thorough nor as entertaining. Same with NOAA Weather Radio…JB was like a movie star to me when I was growing up. When I worked at NWS in the 1990’s, I tried to do NOAA Weather Radio like JB did it.
