That pesky and unwelcome line of strong storms in the middle of the night continues to move southward into Middle Alabama.

We started watching them closely around 10:00 last night when they entered extreme NW Alabama. At 1:10 a.m., the line of strong storms, a little more irregular, extended from North Tuscaloosa County across South Jefferson, NE Shelby into North Talladega and to near Anniston. The storms were moving generally SE. Some of the heavier rain will be crossing the Tuscaloosa/Northport area shortly.

Most of the stronger storms have moved through the downtown Birmingham area, but showers linger behind.

As the storms moved through, winds were estimated to 50 mph in Vestavia and there was a measured gust of 51 mph at the downtown Birmingham Skycam, which is atop the Daniel Building.

The rain is not as heavy on a widespread basis as it was earlier.

Between now and about 2:00 a.m., these storms will cross much of Talladega County as well as Shelby, Bibb and the rest of Tuscaloosa County.

This may possibly be our last update, but we will continue to watch it closely.
