By the way, isn’t rainfall an unecessary expression. Isn’t rain a better word?
After all, if it does not fall, it is not rain.
Anyway, rain across North and Central Alabama has been very, very puny this morning.
I still believe in an old, old saying that I picked up from an oldtimer sitting on an empty nail keg playing dominoes under the shade of a huge spreading oak tree in a vacant lot next to the Hale County News in Moundville when I was about six years old. He would always say:
Droughts beget droughts.
That is true to a great extent, because during a severe drought a stubborn weather pattern hangs on for a long time and sort of feeds on itself.
I don’t suppose we could classify Alabama as being in a major severe drought at the moment, but the rainfall deficiency at Birmingham Airport reached 11.26 inches today.
Only scattered light rain fell across North and Central Alabama this morning. I don’t believe you would have needed an umbrella.
Late this morning, some of the better showers (and nothing to write home about) were from about Montgomery County southward to the coast. The heaviest showers of all were off shore over the Gulf of Mexico south of Panama City. Those will move inland near Port St. Jo later.
Excuse my silliness (in my old age), but only the sharks and red snapper need to use an umbrella this morning.
