RIGHT NOW: Showers are very hard to find on radar this afternoon, with temperatures mostly in the 78-83 degree range across North/Central Alabama. The chance of rain overnight looks small.
TOMORROW/FRIDAY: An approaching front should bring a general increase in the number of showers and thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon, tomorrow night, and into Friday morning across the state. Tomorrow will be another warm day, with mid 80s possible by afternoon. New rain amounts of around 1/2 inch look likely, with isolated amounts to one inch.
The showers should be out of here by midday Friday, with a clearing sky by afternoon. We do note the 12Z NAM holds the showers in longer, but for now we will discount that solution. Friday should be a bit cooler with a high near 80. And, the weather looks dry for the high school football games Friday night.
WEEKEND PEEK: The 12Z GFS looks pretty dry for Sunday, so I am just about ready to make the entire weekend forecast rain-free. Saturday should be mostly sunny, with a high in the low 80s following a low in the 50s. Pretty much the same story Sunday; looks like the big upper low north of here will stay far enough away not to really influence our weather.
Dry weather is the story for at least the first half of next week as well.
TROPICS: Tropical Storm Ophelia is a little stronger this afternoon, but it is expected to remain just below hurricane strength for the next five days or so on the journey to the west/northwest. All model guidance shows a turn to the north well before getting close to the U.S… another system that should recurve into the North Atlantic without bothering many folks, perhaps with the exception of Bermuda. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
