An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme Video is available in the player below and on iTune.
A tad rushed this morning, so the written discussion will not be too long. SPC has issued a tornado watch that comes from the Gulf coast up to just south of Tuscaloosa and Centreville. Radar showed a large area of rain stretching from West Tennessee down to the Gulf. It would appear that the best instability will stay south of the Birmingham area.
Dew points in Central Alabama have climbed overnight but remained only in the lower and mid 50s around 6 am. Clouds are likely to keep the sunshine limited, so we aren’t going to get much sun to heat the lower atmosphere. Add to that the fact that there was a capping inversion on the BMX sounding last night, and it would seem likely that the greatest threat for severe weather, especially tornadoes, will be south of the Birmingham area.
The surface low treks rapidly north-northeast and will be bringing another round of winter weather to a portion of the northern tier of the US. As the front moves out this evening, temperatures will plunge and Monday is expected to be a raw day with values staying in the 40s all day despite some sun by late afternoon.
But, in typical Southeast fashion, the warmup begins on Tuesday after a chilly start with lows in the lower 20s. Afternoon highs ought to get into the upper 50s.
Another weather system promises another shot at rain on Thursday.
Sorry to cut this short, but have lots to do in watching the weather this morning. Don’t forget our next Storm Alert Tour stop will be this coming Thursday in Lineville. Doors open at 5 pm and the program begins at 7 pm. Hope to see you there.
James Spann should be here tomorrow morning around 7 with the next installment of the Weather Xtreme Video. Stay safe in todays weather. God bless.
