The weather pattern for the Southeast US certainly remains interesting. A few locations to the northwest of Birmingham saw a little rain yesterday afternoon as that cluster of storms made it almost to Tuscaloosa before dissipating. Most Alabamians are waking up to a cloud cover this morning thanks to another one of those large thunderstorm complexes or MCSs that moved through Northwest Mississippi early this morning. A second but smaller cluster was located this morning just southwest of Nashville, but it will probably stay just north of the northeast corner of Alabama.
So for today, temperatures will probably be a few degrees below yesterday with highs approaching 90 thanks to the overcast conditions thanks to the cluster to our west-northwest.
The slightly cooler readings will probably be with us Monday as that front to the north settles into the area bringing us some excellent chances for rain. Unfortunately, due to the showery nature of this system, not everyone will see a good soaking. But some places will.
As the upper ridge builds back into the Southeast at mid-week, we should see temperatures climb back to the lower 90s or 90 to 92. But the GFS has been really consistent with the development of a trough over the eastern US late in the week. That should bring some really good rain chances again around Friday and Saturday along with highs only getting to the upper 80s – maybe even mid 80s for some spots.
As we get through the weekend, the rain chances seem to begin fading on Sunday, and as we edge out into voodoo country, the upper ridge builds in once again especially across the Gulf Coast, so the heat is likely to return. But I don’t see any really dry air, so as long as the moisture remains high, we’ll have to keep shower chances in the forecast.
