THIS AFTERNOON: A deck of mid level clouds is moving over Alabama this afternoon, but very dry air continues in the low levels, and temperatures are near 80 degrees in most places. Expect a similar day tomorrow, with a partly sunny sky and a high in the low to mid 80s. We should be about 5 degrees shy of tomorrow’s record high of 88 set in 1938.

MID-WEEK COLD FRONT: We will continue to mention the chance of a few showers late tomorrow night into early Wednesday, but don’t get your hopes up for beneficial rain. Some communities might see enough rain to settle the dust, but some places won’t get a drop. The main window for showers will come from about 11:00 p.m. tomorrow through 8:00 a.m. Wednesday. Nothing to really get excited about. Cooler air follows the front on Wednesday with a high in the mid 70s.

THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND: Yet another rain-free weekend ahead, with warm days and cool nights. Highs will be generally in the 77 to 80 degree range, with lows between 46 and 52. No rain problems for high school or college football games again this weekend; quite a contrast to last year when it seemingly rained just about every weekend during the football season.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: You probably could have figured it out, but the GFS is already backing down on the rain event early next week, with the best dynamics lifting north of Alabama. We will mention a chance of showers Tuesday and Wednesday, but at this particular moment the prospect for beneficial rain doesn’t look good. However, with a mean trough axis over the Central U.S. over the last week of the month, that could very well bring at least one, maybe two good opportunities for wet weather before Halloween. See the Weather Xtreme video for more details.
