MILD DAYS, COOL NIGHTS: Very nice weather continues through Saturday with sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights. Highs in the 77 to 80 degree range, with lows mostly in the 40s tomorrow, followed by low to mid 50s Saturday morning. Pretty simple forecast in the short term.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: Another rain-free forecast. For the high school games tonight and tomorrow night, the sky will be clear, with temperatures falling from the mid 70s at kickoff into the low 60s by the fourth quarter.
Auburn hosts LSU in a huge SEC battle Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium (2:30 p.m. kickoff)… the sky will be partly sunny with a kickoff temperature near 80 degrees, falling into the low 70s by the final whistle. Alabama heads to Knoxville to play the Tennessee Volunteers (6:00 p.m. kickoff); expect a fair sky with temperatures around 70 at kickoff, falling to the upper 50s by the fourth quarter. The UAB Blazers are also on the road; they will be in Starkville, Mississippi to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs Saturday evening at 6:00. The sky should be mostly fair, with temperatures falling from the low 80s at kickoff to near 70 by the end of the game.
SUNDAY/MONDAY: We will introduce the risk of a shower Sunday afternoon as moisture levels increase, followed by a good round of showers and storms late Sunday night into Monday. The 00Z GFS is a little faster with this event, suggesting the bulk of the rain and storms will come from about 9:00 p.m. Sunday through 9:00 a.m. Monday. We are very optimistic that much of Alabama will see 1/2 to 1 inch of rain. And, there might even be a strong or severe thunderstorm around. Just about that time, you know, since the fall tornado season begins in about 10 days.
NEXT WEEK: The surface front stalls out just north of here, leaving a moist airmass in place Tuesday and Wednesday. There won’t be much in the way of dynamic lift, but we will mention some chance of scattered showers on those days. Then, a sharp upper trough will bring another good round of rain and storms on Thursday, with potential for another one inch of rain along with strong storms. Much colder air follows the rain on Friday, with potential for frost, and even a freeze by Saturday October 30. Watch the Weather Xtreme video for details on long range ideas.
TROPICS: Tropical Depression 19 is expected to become Tropical Storm Richard later today. The NHC track takes it to the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico late this weekend, although we do note some models move it through the Yucatan Channel into the Gulf. The GFDL takes it toward Fort Myers, Florida… again check out the Weather Xtreme video for details and specific thoughts. One way or another this one should not be a problem for the Central Gulf Coast.
