An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

WET WEATHER AHEAD: One glance at the radar, and you can’t ignore the big mass of rain over the western Gulf of Mexico and the eastern half of Texas. The rain seems to be a little ahead of schedule, and it sure looks like it will enter West Alabama early tomorrow morning. So, we will highlight periods of rain during the day tomorrow, with the heavier amounts over the southern half of the state. Models are a little drier based on the 12Z runs; the NAM is now printing 0.48″ with this event for Birmingham, while the GFS is wetter with 0.71″. We will forecast 1/2 to 1 inch of rain for the northern half of the state, with the rain tapering off late tomorrow night and early Sunday morning.

I sure get the idea clouds will linger most all day Sunday, but most of the rain should be east of Alabama. The weekend will be rather cool with temperatures not getting out of the 50s tomorrow and Sunday.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Excellent weather for the remaining high school football playoff games tonight; the sky will be mostly fair, with temperatures in the mid 50s at kickoff, falling to near 50 by the fourth quarter. Tomorrow, Alabama will host Chattanooga at Bryant-Denny Stadium with an 11:20 a.m. kickoff. The sky will be mostly cloudy with periods of rain. The kickoff temperature will be near 58 degrees, and then hovering in the 57 to 60 degree during the game. UAB is on the road; they will play East Carolina tomorrow at 2:30 at Greenville, North Carolina. The sky will be partly sunny with a kickoff temperature around 65 degrees, falling into the upper 40s by the final whistle. Auburn has the day off.

THANKSGIVING WEEK: The week continue to look generally dry, although we will need to mention at least a chance of a shower late Tuesday or Tuesday night, thanks to a passing cold front. Moisture will be very limited, so rain amounts should be light and spotty.

Much colder air invades the state on Thanksgiving Day thanks to a deep upper trough forming over the eastern third of the nation; we will probably have a hard time getting out of the 40s with a chilly north wind. Friday, Iron Bowl game day and Black Friday, looks dry with a sub-freezing start (28 to 32), but with a high in the 50s along with a good supply of sunshine.

VOODOO LAND: I still like the idea of much colder air invading the Deep South, and much of the continental U.S. right as December arrives. Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the GFS showing the always interesting look of a polar trough undercut by a sub-tropical jet around December 2.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

I sure enjoyed seeing all of the students today at the Etowah Career Technical Training Center in Attalla; be looking for them on the Pepsi KIDCAM today at 5:00 on ABC 33/40. I will be in the Storm Chaser leading the way in tonight’s Lights Up parade at the Summit; I hope to see many of you there. If you can’t make it, I will stream the ride with the Storm Chaser live stream, which you can see on the left side of the blog (you can expand the video to full screen, of course).

Brian Peters will have the Weather Xtreme video updates tomorrow and Sunday… my next video will be posted bright and early Monday morning by 7:00 a.m. Enjoy the weekend!
