Just looking at temperatures across the Southeast US, and it is interesting to note that Central Alabama is the coolest spot around. The 3 pm temperatures were quite warm across much of the Southeast, but the clouds seem to have held a bit thicker across Central Alabama. The result is that the record high that I thought might occur in Birmingham will probably not be set or tied. At 3 pm, the temperature in Birmingham was steady at 69.
But if you look at readings around us, the effects of the clouds become quite obvious. Most of Mississippi was in the mid or upper 70s. South Alabama and Northwest Florida were in the mid to upper 70s with a few spots into the lower 80s. And all of those locations were in good sunshine.
There is still a chance that some records will be set or tied this week since it appears likely that the warmth will stay with us. Here is a look at the records for today and tomorrow:
Tuscaloosa
Dec. 9 76 1972 Dec. 10 74 1971
Birmingham
Dec. 9 74 1946 Dec. 10 73 1972
Anniston
Dec. 9 75 1978 Dec. 10 77 1972
The observations showed that Anniston probably tied their record today, but it looks like the other records will hold.
