Very little change in the weather outlook for the coming week for Central Alabama with a strong upper ridge in place and expected to hold for the foreseeable future. The result will be a continuation of the heat along with a daily possibility for isolated afternoon and early evening showers and thunderstorms. Please don’t let the heat sneak up on you. Heat can be a major killer as it was in the Summer of 1980, so take the heat seriously by staying hydrated and reducing strenuous work.

A trough over the Rockies will eject out to the northeast and across the Great Lakes, but with the ridge holding strong, it will have little effect on our weather. The westerlies are forecast to remain well north of us even as the ridge weakens a little but then comes back stronger next weekend.

SPC outlooking an area for slight risk of severe weather from southern Ohio back to West Texas. While the outlook area changes somewhat, the focus remains somewhat in the same area for the next three days and perhaps beyond.

National Hurricane Center (NHC) watching a large cloud mass that shows some signs for development over the next few days way out in the Atlantic. The cloud mass is really large and satellite imagery suggests signs of some circulation. So this will be watched for further development.

Unfortunately, little change is forecast well out into voodoo country until the very end of the current forecast run. The 372-hour forecast suggests the ridge moves westward where it will become established over the southern Rockies. This allows a trough to come into the picture around June 28th which could spell some relief for us from the heat. But that is pure speculation at the moment!

I had a wonderful Saturday cooling off in the pool and spending some relaxing time with friends. It is always amazing to me how when you get into the pool the heat just doesn’t seem that bad. Of course, the shade around the pool added to the coolness of the water. James Spann should be back with the next Weather Xtreme Video tomorrow morning. Have a great day and Godspeed.
