Things are slowly improving across Central Alabama tonight as temperatures slowly warm and the wintry mix tapers off.

Roads cross areas from Millport to Jasper to Snead to Gaylesville to Heflin to Talladega to Calera to Demopolis are mainly wet now, but they are also slick in spots. Accidents are still being reported, so please use extra caution, especially on bridges. The most recent accident reported by John Talbot was on I-65 at Finley Blvd with a car in the wall.

North of this area, significant snow accumulations have occurred across parts of Cullman, Marshall and DeKalb Counties. Roads are snowpacked or ice covered and extremely dangerous. Travel is strongly discouraged in these areas. In fact, in DeKalb and Marshall Counties, emergency management has issued local area emergencies.

Some power outages are being reported as exposed tree branches and power lines sag under the weight of ice buildup.
