TODAY: We stay dry through much of the day today, but north of Alabama a cold front is drifting south, and showers and storms will fire over Tennessee during the afternoon. Some of those storms could be strong to severe, and much of the Volunteer State has been placed under the standard slight risk of severe weather today by SPC. Some of those storms should drift down into North Alabama by mid to late afternoon, perhaps reaching Birmingham and the I-20 corridor at some point this evening. Surface based CAPE values will rise over 2,500 j/kg, so some of the storms over North Alabama late today could pack a punch.

Temperatures will rise well into the 80s again today; both the NAM and the GFS are printing a high of 89 today at Birmingham. Humidity levels will stay high as well with dewpoints in the 60s.

TOMORROW AND SUNDAY: The front will stall out somewhere around the Tennessee border, meaning we will have the chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. The most numerous showers will be during the afternoon and evening hours, but a shower at some point during the nighttime or morning hours can’t be ruled out. The sky will be cloudy at times, and highs will be generally in the mid 80s.

REGIONS CHARITY GOLF CLASSIC: I think they will be able to get in all rounds this weekend out at Ross Bridge, but one or two rain delays are certainly possible, if not likely. The weather will be warm and humid with afternoon temperatures peaking in the 85 to 88 degree range. And, take some sun screen since the sun will be out at times.

NEXT WEEK: Showers and storms will become more numerous Monday as a short wave approaches, then dry air begins to move in Tuesday. The rest of the week looks dry with lower humidity levels and cooler nights. Afternoon highs will be close to the 80 degree mark.
