Recently, the SPC and NWS in Memphis have expanded the severe thunderstorm watch to include all of northern Mississippi this evening. The watch is valid until 9 PM tonight. With current trends, we could certainly see a watch issued for parts of Alabama later this evening.

Thunderstorms continue to  develop across the Mississippi Valley this evening. Strong and severe storms are producing large hail, damaging winds, and torrential rainfall. There have been reports out of northern Mississippi of golf ball size hail. Storms will continue to persist through the evening hours, and are moving towards the east-southeast. That means they could impact northern portions of the state. Areas west of Interstate 65 and north of Interstate 20 are the areas of Alabama that are the most likely to see a threat of severe storms into the overnight hours.
