Heavy showers were over Kemper County MS about to enter Sumter and Greene Counties in Alabama. Additional moderate showers were forming through southern Tuscaloosa, Bibb and Shelby Counties.
A line of strong storms extends from northern Limestone into extreme NW Lawrence and Colbert Counties, just into northern Franklin County in Northwest Alabama. It then extends to north of Tupelo to Pontotoc to east of Greenwood to Belzoni in Mississippi.
Storms were very strong near Pontotoc and west of Winona, about to cross I-55.
Nothing severe yet. The line of storms should hold together and bring heavy rain and lots of lightning over the next few hours as it moves southeast at 20-25 mph.
The airmass over Alabama remains slightly unstable with some moderate instability over Northwest Alabama, and east of Philadelphia MS. Dewpoints are high; in the 70s. There is a decent amount of shear. And the presence of a warm front just south of I-20 could provide a focus for strong to severe storm development overnight. Can’t rule out the threat of an isolated tornado.
Stay alert to the latest development through the overnight, and keep a source of reliable weather information handy. Keep those weatheradios on alert.
