While our severe weather threat seems to be winding down somewhat in Central Alabama, it continues for the Montgomery-Auburn-Dothan-Troy region for the rest of this morning.

Our attention is now turning to two different issues: flooding and snow. Flood warnings are now posted for Jefferson, Shelby, Walker, Lamar, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Greene, Hale, Perry, and Marengo Counties in Central Alabama. At one point this morning, 48 roads in Lamar County were closed due to high water. As the flooding recedes along minor creeks and rivers today, the bigger river systems like the Cahaba, Alabama, and Tombigbee will begin rising. Minor flooding is forecast along those rivers through early next week.

Then, we go to this:

That’s the 0Z (last night’s) NAM model output for accumulated snow in Alabama for tonight and Sunday morning. As we have been saying, use caution in looking at single model runs. This is an upper-air low, and it honestly won’t show it’s hand until it gets here. That’s just the real answer. So, we expect snow to fall. How much? Probably less than 2″ in most places. When you consider how warm the ground is, the visible accumulation could be much less than what actually falls from the sky.

Brian Peters will have a discussion shortly, and of course the blog will be hot with fresh info today!

Once this line’s out of here, it’ll be naptime again. Have a great Saturday!
