BEAUTIFUL DAY: What a fantastic day across Alabama. A little windy, but nothing last night. Lots of sun; comfortable temperatures with readings in the 60s this afternoon. But, don’t get used to it. The big cold air mass that has been over the northern U.S. will invade the Deep South tonight.
TOMORROW/FRIDAY: We should be in the mid 20s at daybreak tomorrow, followed by a high only in the 40 to 45 degree range. I doubt that Huntsville and Muscle Shoals will get out of the 30s. MOS numbers are too warm due to the shallow nature of the cold air. The day will feature a good supply of sunshine through high clouds. Clouds will increase Friday, but it looks more and more like the daytime hours on Friday will be dry, and cold with a high in the mid 40s.
WEEKEND OUTLOOK: The weekend looks wet. And, I still have some concern over freezing rain early Saturday morning. I think we will need to introduce the idea in our public forecast package; many spots will be in the 29 to 33 degree range as the rain begins, and evaporative cooling could knock those numbers down a degree or two. The main problem will come from bridge icing; just be aware that is a possibility for a brief time Saturday morning from I-20 north. Saturday will be cold with periods of rain, and we will struggle to get out of the 30s. The models have trended toward a longer rain event, and we will have to carry a good chance of rain into Sunday. Temperatures Sunday will be a big warmer with a high around 50 degrees.
NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The active weather continues. After a brief break Monday, another rain event seems likely by late Monday night and Tuesday with the next wave in the southern stream. Looks like all rain for now. Then, later in the month, the cold and unsettled weather continues with some potential for winter weather mischief. Watch the Weather Xtreme video for complete details.
