A rather broad zone of scattered showers, and even a few thunderstorms, developed quickly late this morning. At 11:30 a.m., most of the showers extended from Sumter County in West Alabama northeast across Greene, Hail, Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Etowah, Jackson and DeKalb Counties. This included some moderate to heavy showers over North and East Tuscaloosa County and West Jefferson County.
The atmosphere is more unstable today. The lifted index (LI) at Shelby County Airport this morning was minus 3.5. That is just one of the numerous indicators we watch when there is a possibility of some severe thunderstorms. We cannot rule out the possibility of some warnings being needed as the afternoon goes on and into tonight.
Stay tuned.
