SHOWERS AHEAD: Moisture levels will increase across Alabama today, and showers will begin to develop this afternoon over the southern half of the state ahead of an upper trough/surface front. Showers and a few thunderstorms are likely statewide tonight and tomorrow; with weakening dynamics severe storms are not expected. Rain amounts will vary from 1-2 inches across the Tennessee Valley of North Alabama, to around a quarter of an inch for much of South Alabama. This won’t be a drought buster.

Expect a clearing sky Thursday, followed by a mostly sunny day Friday. Highs remain in the 70s through the end of the week.

THE WEEKEND: Cooler air rolls into the Deep South just in time for the weekend. The weather stays dry with a sunny sky both days; highs will be in the 60s with lows well down in the 40s. Colder spots will dip into the 30s early Sunday morning.

Still seeing signs of relatively widespread frost for North Alabama each morning during the first half of the week. Much of the week looks dry for Alabama, although a disturbance in the southern branch of the jet stream could bring some rain into the southern part of the state by Wednesday or Thursday. See the video briefing for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: An area of low pressure is expected to form along a weakening frontal boundary a few hundred miles northeast of the Bahamas in a day or so. This system could acquire some subtropical characteristics late this week while it drifts over the western Atlantic. The chances of subtropical development should end by the weekend when the system is expected to move eastward or northeastward into unfavorable environmental conditions. Chance of development is 30 percent.

No tropical storms are expected near the Gulf or the U.S. for at least the next 7-10 days.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Auburn hosts Arkansas Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium (11:45a CT kickoff)… the sky will be sunny with temperatures in the mid to upper 60s.

Alabama will be in Baton Rouge to play LSU (2:30p CT kickoff)… it will be a sunny day there with temperatures in the mid 70s during the first half, falling into the upper 60s by the final whistle.

The weather looks excellent for all of the games played in Alabama Saturday; a clear sky with a high between 65 and 70 degrees. For evening games temperatures will fall quickly into the 50s.
