COLD FRONT ON THE WAY: Alabama’s weather will remain generally dry during the day today, with a mix of sun and clouds along with a high at or just over 70 degrees, slightly above the average high of 68 for November 6. We do note a few sprinkles on radar this morning around the Birmingham metro, but they are very small and very isolated.

Models are trending a little faster with the band of showers tonight. It now looks like the showers will enter the northwest corner of the state around 8:00 p.m., then arriving along I-59 (Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Gadsden) around midnight. Showers will continue eastward during the pre-dawn hours tomorrow.

Rain amounts up around Florence and Muscle Shoals will be around 1/2 inch, but down this way (Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Anniston, Gadsden), amounts will be closer to 1/4 inch as the showers should weaken as they move east. Stable air means no severe weather, and probably no thunder.

The rain should be out of here by daybreak tomorrow, so most of you will sleep through the rain event.

COLDER TOMORROW: The sky will become mostly sunny tomorrow, but the day will be colder with a chilly northwest wind of 12-22 mph, gusting at times over 25 mph. We will have a hard time getting out of the 50s despite the sun. And, by Friday morning, most communities will drop into the mid to upper 30s, with some potential for a light freeze across colder valleys of North Alabama.

The day Friday will feature sunshine in full supply with a high in the low 60s.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Delightful autumn weather, with sunny cool days and clear chilly nights. Highs in the 60s; lows in the 40s.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For the first round of the high school football playoffs Friday night, the sky will be clear with temperatures falling from the mid 50s at kickoff into the 40s by the second half of the games. Great night for football.

Alabama hosts LSU Saturday night in Tuscaloosa (7:00p CT kickoff); the sky will be clear with a kickoff temperature near 55 degrees, falling into the 40s during the second half. Auburn travels to Knoxville to take on the Tennessee Volunteers (11:00 a.m. CT kickoff)… the sky will be mostly sunny with temperatures rising from 56 at kickoff to near 61 degrees by the final whistle.

UAB is on the road; they play at Marshall Saturday in Huntingdon, West Virginia; the sky will be sunny with 52 degrees at kickoff, and 57 degrees by the end of the game. Doesn’t get much better for a November Saturday.

NEXT WEEK: The GFS now is in good agreement with the ECMWF, and the threat for strong storms Thursday is off the board. The week looks cool and dry, with a fresh shot of colder air arriving Wednesday and Thursday. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.
