We have all enjoyed a fairly large family of showers moving east across North and Central Alabama most of the morning and into this afternoon.

At 12:45 p.m, most of the showers had shifted eastward to Marshall, DeKalb and Cherokee Counties southwestward across Etowah, St. Clair, East Jefferson, Shelby, North Chilton and the west parts of both Talladega and Calhoun Counties.

For many areas, this has been a slow soaking rain. We could not be happier. The heaviest rain, at 12:45, is from just east of downtown Birmingham, across the Irondale area and east along I-20 in South St. Clair County to Leeds, Cook Springs and Pell City. Some of the heavier rain will reach Riverside, Oxford and Anniston within the next hour.

Mind you, it is not a gully-washer or a toad-strangler, by any means, but it is beneficial.

Off to the west, individual showers were beginning to develop over the SW corner of Tuscaloosa County and over East Mississippi.
