RIGHT NOW: A line of strong to severe storms has formed over East Oklahoma and Southwest Missouri, along a surface boundary that is moving in our direction. SPC maintains a slight risk of severe storms for the rest of this afternoon and tonight in the broad area roughly from Houston to St. Louis; the main risk will come from damaging straight line winds. The storms should cross the Mississippi River late tonight. Here at home, as expected we are enjoying a fantastic day with a sunny sky and temperatures mostly in the mid to upper 70s.
TOMORROW: Showers and storms will move across our state during the day tomorrow. The severe weather threat is minimal, and rain totals of one-half to one inch are likely. The main window for the rain will be from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., but only one to two hours of rain is expected within that 12 hour window. And, a good chance the rain will be gone by the time the high school football games begin tomorrow night.
THE WEEKEND: Still looking nice, with ample sunshine Saturday and Sunday along with highs in the 75 to 80 degree range. Early morning lows should be in the upper 40s both Saturday and Sunday.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: It looks like the timing of this rain event will be friendly to high school football for sure tonight and most likely for the Friday night games. We believe the showers will be out of the way before Friday night kick offs. Temperatures at kick-off time tonight should be in the upper 60s. For tomorrow night, in the mid 60s at kick off lowering to the 50s. Southern Miss is in Birmingham to play UAB at 7:00 this evening. Kick-off temperature should be 73 falling into the 60s with dry weather. On Saturday, Alabama will be in Kentucky for an 11:21 kick off. About 58 degrees at kick off and warming slowly into the lower 60s. Auburn is in Knoxville to play Tennessee for a 6:45 kick off. It should be around 65 at kick off and dropping to around 48-50 at the final whistle.
NEXT WEEK: Looks like a warm front will move northward across the state Monday, and we will need to bring some risk of a shower or storm. Then, the weather looks more like summer Tuesday through Thursday, with warm and humid days along with some risk of scattered showers. Temperatures will soar into the mid 80s around here, more like early September instead of early October. The heaviest rain next week should be north of Alabama.
TROPICS: All remains quiet across the vast Atlantic basin.
