UNSETTLED WEATHER: At daybreak, rain is fairly widespread over much of Mississippi and the far northwest part of Alabama… this is due to a persistent upper low that is near the northeast corner of Texas. This feature will drift to the east and slowly weaken in coming days, and will bring a general increase in the number of showers and thunderstorms to our state.

We will project scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms today, tomorrow, and Friday. The sky will be generally cloudy, although the sun will break out at times. The best chance of getting rain will come during the afternoon and nighttime hours, but we can’t rule out some morning rain as well. The most widespread rain will come over the western side of the state, closer to the upper low, but showers are a good bet on the eastern side of the state as well.

Afternoon highs will be generally in the low to mid 80s through Friday.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Showers and storms will become more scattered over the weekend, and mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. Otherwise, expect a mix of sun and clouds Saturday and Sunday with highs in the upper 80s.

Scattered showers should thin out even more early next week as an upper high begins to build over the region.

VOODOO LAND: The good ole GFS model still depicting a tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico; the 00Z run shows it in the June 9-10 time frame, with a landfall over the eastern Florida Panhandle and the big rains staying east of Alabama. Let’s all remember the GFS is famous for putting down bogus tropical systems in the 7-15 day time frame, but the consistency in the idea is good. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

AT THE BEACH: The sky will be generally cloudy today through Friday with occasional showers and storms. Sunshine will be very limited for places like Gulf Shores and Pensacola; best bet for sun on these three days will be to the east around Panama City. Showers and storms will thin out this weekend with increasing amounts of sunshine. Highs on the coast will be in the 80s; the sea water temperature early this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 80 degrees.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. We will produce this week’s show tomorrow (Thursday) night at 8:30p CT.
