Alabama is waking up to another moist and cloudy day with a number of rain bands associated with our weather tropical low this morning. The center of the tropical low was just crossing the Mississippi River between Clarksdale and Greenville or a little south of Memphis. It is projected to continue on a northwesterly course that will take it up into Missouri on Monday and Tuesday. It should then get picked up by the westerlies. As it does, it will head toward New England toward the end of the week.
For us, not much changes through the latter part of the upcoming week as the Southeast US and Central Alabama remain in a tropical air mass. This essentially means showers a good possibility just about every day. But take heart there is some possibility of relief toward the end of the week. The GFS is suggesting the development of a fairly sharp trough over the eastern half of the country by Friday. While this won’t provide a sweeping change to our air mass, it should bring somewhat drier air into the Southeast and cap off the showers at least to isolated. But for the most part the upcoming week will see daily showers, lots of clouds with a peek or two at some sun, and temperatures hovering right around seasonal values – lows in the mid and upper 60s and highs in the lower 80s.
The westerlies are projected to stay pretty far north well into voodoo country as an upper ridge builds from the Bahamas to the northwest. That should turn the heat up a notch or two.

James Spann should be back with the next edition of the Weather Xtreme Video tomorrow morning as we keep to the one-a-day schedule for the Memorial Day weekend. I hope that you have a great Sunday and enjoy the holiday on Monday. I’m hoping for some sun while we enjoy Cheaha State Park. We’ve been in the clouds a good deal since arriving on Thursday afternoon. Mt. Cheaha is a wonderful spot for watching the ever-changing weather. Godspeed.
