They are scattered around the Alabama countryside this afternoon and, because they are slow movers, some communities are getting a lot of rain, while others nearby cannot buy an inch of rain.

One small, but heavy, thunderstorm lollygagged in the Double Springs area for over an hour. We got a report from one of our blog readers at 2:18 p.m. that Double Springs had received lots of heavy rain, lots of cloud-to-ground lightning and some pretty strong gusty winds. He lost power for a short time and currently has no phone service.

The NWS/Birmingham has been in touch with the EMA Director in Winston County and he reports that the EMA Office had a lightning hit.

We can’t describe where every shower or storm is located, but here are some of the other main ones. The Double Springs storm has greatly diminished.

FAYETTE COUNTY
Pouring rain now north of Berry and in the vicinity of Fayette.

FRANKLIN COUNTY
Very heavy rain over the west part of the county. especially around White Oak and Red Bay.

LAMAR COUNTY
Raining heavily near and west of Sulligent and along the Mississippi border.

GREATER BIRMINGHAM
A heavy storm just NW of downtown working its way slowly NW toward Adamsville and Graysville.

FURTHER SOUTH
Scattered strong storms over a number of counties from about Montgomery and Selma southward. Those storms are moving more westward instead of NW.

Over the north half of the state, the strongest thunderstorms at 3:20 were over Fayette, Western Franklin, and extreme West Lamar County.
