It is a beautiful summer Sunday across much of Alabama this afternoon…
A few showers have been trying to develop across Central Alabama from down around Chilton County through Shelby, Coosa and into Talladega Counties. There are some near Clanton at this hour.
A thick canopy of cirrus clouds has limited temperatures in areas generally west of I-59 and slowed cumulus development. That is why the showers have formed to the southeast today, where temperatures are warmer. It was 93F at Anniston at 2 p.m., while at Birmingham, it was 86F.
It has been a messy day over in West Central Mississippi, where widespread rain and storms have been occurring.
Regional radars show nothing upstream from us right now. The frontal system is still back to the northwest, over the Missouri Bootheel, waiting on a low to swing across and propel it southward.
Showers and thunderstorms are still expected to develop ahead of this front as it moves southeastward late this afternoon and tonight. Some of the storms could be strong to severe.
It should be the start of a trend to wetter over the next few days in Alabama.
