A bit of a stormy Friday evening for some with several severe thunderstorm warnings issued in Alabama and Mississippi. But most of the storms have exited our area and will soon exit the southeast corner of Alabama. This means that we should see a pretty nice day across Central Alabama as drier and cooler air moves into the area from the northwest. Due to clouds from the large closed upper low, we will see cloudy skies at time, but we should also see some peeks at the sun.

The closed upper low will be sticking around to make the forecasts a bit challenging over the next several days. A weak disturbance moving down the west side of the trough will bring a chance for showers on Monday. I think the showers will be scattered, so many places will see little rain.

We dry out for the middle of the week as the upper atmosphere sorts out the features. A new trough on the west coast will finally kick the closed low and trough over the eastern US off to the northeast. This should provide us with several dry days with a slight warming trend as temperatures climb back into the 80s for highs. The western system gets close enough to impact our weather by Friday as showers develop ahead of a weak cold front. Those rain chances will stay with us into Saturday, but there are signs that the rain will exit our area by Sunday. No big temperature trends with highs mainly in the lower and middle 80s.

Peeking into voodoo country continues to show a steady stream of weather systems. One of those impacts us around May 24th with another around the 28th. But with a nearly zonal upper air pattern, we should not see any extremes in temperature. The GFS is also suggesting that the main storm track will be nudging northward as we typically see with June just around the corner.

Big weekend in Helena with the Buck Creek Festival. Weather was very nice to us yesterday as we had about an hour of light rain which settled the dust but did not have much of an impact on all of the set up activities. We go full bore today with music starting at 10 am and continuing through 10 pm. You can get the full lineup at www.buckcreekfestival.com. Mustang Sally is our headliner tonight at 8:15 pm and the all girl band puts on quite a show. I hope you have a wonderful day whatever you plan to do. The next Weather Xtreme Video should be posted by 8 am Sunday. Godspeed.
