Brian Peters is on vacation this weekend… this is just a quick update with no video this morning (I have to head to the baseball park!)
*RAIN AMOUNTS: The NAM is printing 1.04″ for Birmingham over the weekend, while the GFS is more aggressive with 1.48″. I an inclined to lean more toward the drier NAM, but we will take all we can get.
*TIMING: Rain and storms should enter West Alabama late tonight, most likely in the 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. time frame. Occasional showers will continue through the day tomorrow, and at this time it looks like the rain will be ending from west to east tomorrow afternoon in the 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. period. The rain won’t be continuous, but we should see a few decent downpours late tonight and tomorrow.
*SEVERE WEATHER THREAT: Minimal at best. I know that SPC has outlined a slight risk of severe weather for parts of the state tomorrow, but instability values are marginal, and the better dynamics will be well to the north of the best instability. I can see a few severe storms over Mississippi tonight, but they should weaken as they move into West Alabama late tonight.
*COLD SNAP: As we have discussed here for days, a pretty good late season cold snap is ahead this Friday and Saturday (April 5 and 6)… looks like a good chance of some frost on one or both mornings, and there will be some potential for a late season freeze for the colder spots. We will focus on this in coming days.
