And in our backyard in the Birmingham area, no less!
At 6:35 p.m. CDT (remember when the radar summaries from Centreville/Brent were written at :35 past the hour?) NWS radar showed showers and some thunder over the eastern half of Alabama.
In the Birmingham area, a thunderstorm was between Branchville and Moody in St. Clair County, moving NW toward Argo. Another was east of Vincent moving toward Leeds.
A trailing storm was appraoching Talladega.
I am afraid both of these have peaked in intensity, but all o fthe developing storms are capable of deadly lightning and brief heavy rains.
Lighter showers were over Blount, eastern Cullman and western Marshall Counties, also moving NW.
More widespread and heavier rain and storms extended from Autauga County into Coosa and Tallapoosa Counties. Lots of lightning occurring over southern Coosa County. This activity is closing in on Clanton and Chilton County.
Additional storms were over South Central Alabama over Pike and Southern Montgomery Counties. Maxwell AFB in Montgomery and Troy were reporting storms in the past 30 minutes.
It is interesting to note that the GFS over the weekend actually hinted that this might happen today…
