The rather broad center of Fay was on and off shore a little after 4 pm. Interesting to watch the various radars around the Southeast.

Tallahassee Radar: Fay is definitely NOT a point. The latest radar image showed that the center is half on and half off the coastline. And it would appear that this straddling of the coastline is something Fay’s large center is likely to do as it treks ever so slowly westward.

Montgomery Radar: The outer bands of Fay have begun to show up, however, the most serious band has not quite reached extreme Southeast Alabama at this writing. It’s getting there and some light rain was being shown but the Dothan airport had yet to report rain. They did have a north wind at 15 gusting to 22 mph with a temperature standing at 80 – and the high for the day so far.

Birmingham Radar: A bit of reflectivity was being shown approaching Columbus, GA. There were a couple of showers in Clarke and Sumter counties, too, but most of Alabama was rain free due to the general sinking air around Fay.

It’s always difficult to forecast high temperatures in this kind of pattern, too. I know that most of us are focusing on trying to forecast rain amounts, but temperatures are likely to be rather cool with clouds and rain for perhaps much of the next three or four days, especially Sunday and Monday for Central Alabama.

But let’s face facts!! This is just the kind of drought breaker we need!! Fay, come on down (or up as the case may be)!!
