Lots of reports of snow accumulations across North and Central Alabama tonight…but road problems have been at a minimum so far. That is starting to change and will continue to deteriorate as temperatures fall and snow continues.
John Talbot just forwarded a slick road reported from Adamsville PD.
Terry Sasser reports that the Red Mountain Expressway is very slick in Birmingham.
We have heard of slick roads in Lamar and Marion Counties. There have been some problems in Morgan and Madison Counties. I would expect there are some problems in Winston and Cullman Counties as well. There was a report of snow accumulating on Corridor W to the east of Cordova and some reports of snow accumulating on roads west of Bessemer.
With temperatures now dropping below freezing, there will be icing on bridges and overpasses and on roads where snow accumulates.
The back edge of the snow is now out of Marion and nearly out of Lamar Counties, where some of the best accumulations have been.
It is still snowing moderately across most of Fayette, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, northern Jefferson, Calhoun, Cleburne, Bibb, Perry, Chilton and Coosa Counties.
Some of the best snows seem to be developing across the middle of the state, from southern Bibb, Perry and Chilton Counties into Coosa County.
Tuscaloosa has had some good accumulations and could see fairly good snow for the next hour but it should taper after that.
Birmingham should continue to see snow through midnight.
Central Alabama and eastern sections will see precipitation into the wee hours.
