The NWS in Birmingham has issued Significant Weather Alerts for Shelby and Bibb Counties until 3:30 and for Talladega and Calhoun Counties until 3:45. They did that because of some thunderstorms moving toward the SE at about 15 mph. The strongest storms could easily produce wind gusts to about 45 mph and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning. There will also be some brief downpours.
Just before 3:00 p.m., the main thunderstorms extended from Western Calhoun County down across North and West Shelby County. They were moving toward the SE. Some of those will reach NW Chilton County soon.
Behind that leading line of storms, there were some other isolated ones south of Jasper in Walker County, along the Blount/Jefferson County line, and over North Greene County.
Earlier in these thunderstorms, there was some minor wind damage near Arab and Baileyton. Those communities are fairly close to each other in NE Cullman County and extreme SW Marshall County.
As these storms move toward the SE, they produced 0.21 rain on Simmons Mountain in Springville. The storms also dropped the temperature from 99 to 80 in SE Trussville.
