It was quite fascinating to watch the rain move north across southern Alabama and yet not get north of the US 80 corridor. And it looks the old frontal boundary along the Gulf will probably move north across Louisiana and Mississippi more today while remaining relatively close to the Gulf Coast over Northwest Florida. But as the upper low/trough gradually shifts eastward later today, we should see the rain approach Central Alabama later tonight and Monday with Monday and Tuesday expected to be rather wet and soggy.
With a broad surface low and the trough just to our west, Wednesday and Thursday should also be rather wet, though it’s likely we’ll see at least some reduction in coverage. By Friday and into next weekend, we should return to more of a scattered shower scenario.
Rainfall amounts over the next five days could fall into the 2 to 4 inch category for some places, especially in an arc from Mobile to Columbus, MS, to Little Rock, AR. This should be a good thing for us as we head into the driest month of the year for Central Alabama, October.
Not much range in temperatures with clouds and rain this week. Lows will be in the upper 60s with highs about 78 to 82. Highs especially remain below seasonal values.
No significant severe weather is anticipated, but with weak tropical lows we will need to keep an eye on how things develop. Fred won’t make it to Christmas afterall. NHC issued the last advisories on Fred yesterday but a rather unorganized cloud mass remains. Maybe we shouldn’t count Fred out yet. We are still watching an area of disturbed weather that is 125 miles southeast of the Cape Verde Islands but chances remain low for any storm development for the next couple of days.
