My boss Kevin Knupp and I were in a meeting, but we couldn’t keep our eyes off the radar as a supercell formed over Limestone County, and developed a nice hook echo NW of Huntsville. We finally jumped up, threw our stuff in his truck, and took off north on Rideout Rd. Kevin did some impressive driving, and got us some very good views of the supercell north of Hazel Green, and we chased it all the way nearly to Winchester, TN. I can’t load pictures here, but I will when I get back to BHM this evening.

We at UAH are also planning an intense study of last night’s gravity wave. We captured it with multiple instruments, including the horizontal and vertical wind profiles, every minute, on MIPS. Downward motion produced warming and the fall in surface pressure that caused the winds, then the warm air lifted back up quickly and the pressure adjusted. I’ll have a more complete writeup on that event later, as I see James said I would!
