Strong thunderstorms were developing quickly along the Tennessee/Alabama border this afternoon, but it was only a relatively short line of strong to severe thunderstorms. Not even 1/2 of 1% of Alabama was affected around 2:30 p.m.

However, the National Weather Service in Huntsville issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for NE Madison County until 2:30. This is based on a thunderstorm that could produce nickel-size hail and damaging winds over 60. It was moving east at 25 and was located near New Market in extreme North Madison County.

Another Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for the north edge of Jackson County in the NE corner of the state. Mainly affected was the Bridgeport area near the Tennessee border. That one could possibly produce hail the size of quarters.

As a frontal boundary pushes down into North Alabama the rest of the afternoon, a few other strong to severe storms may develop. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been posted for a good chunk of North Georgia from the Alabama border eastward.
