NWS/Huntsville has issued Significant Weather Alerts (this is short of a warning) for these North Alabama counties recently:
Marshall
Morgan
Colbert
Franklin
Lauderdale
Limestone
Madison
Earlier, two or three counties came under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning. At 1:45 this afternoon, small hail and 40 mph winds were reported 5 miles west of Athens.
SHELBY COUNTY
An isolated strong thunderstorm downed several tents at American Village at 1:09 this afternoon. Tom Walker, who was on the scene, said crews were getting the tents back up. They temporarily changed over to indoor programs, but were planning to continue the outdoor programs also. That individual thunderstorm is now crossing over into SW Talladega County.
Thunderstorms were more numerous over NE Mississippi and those were moving eastward into NW Alabama. There were also thunderstorms developing southward along the Mississippi/Alabama border that could affect Lamar County.
