Those big thunderstorms that dumped some heavy rain over Central and West Alabama have moved mostly into Mississippi.
Now we turn our heads 180 degrees and look back to the east. Strong thunderstorms have crossed the Alabama/Georgia border into East Alabama. NWS/Birmingham has a Significant Weather Alert posted for Calhoun, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne and Etowah Counties until 8:45. The thunderstorms were moving west at 15 mph. The main line extended from near Piedmont to Roanoke. Winds up to 40 mph are possible with these thunderstorms.
Communities that will be affected between now and 8:45 are:
Wedowee
Anderson
Hokes Bluff
Crudup (located north of Gadsden)
Reece City
Big Wheel’s Creek
We will have some of today’s impressive rain amounts a little later.
