The severe thunderstorm warning for Greene and Sumter Counties has been canceled.

Showers and storms continue across a large part of Central and North Alabama early this morning.

The activity has increased in coverage and intensity in the past 90 minutes.

The strongest storms at this hour extend from southern Lawrence through Winston and Marion Counties then into Fayette, Lamar and Pickens Counties. Another strong storm is along the Tuscaloosa/Jefferson County line.

Over East Alabama, showers and storms are quite thick over St. Clair, Etowah, Calhoun and Cherokee Counties.

Everything is moving northeast at about 50 mph.

The line of storms over West Alabama has slowed down considerably. This could lead to flooding problems as thunderstorms train over the same locations again and again.

Storms will remain strong to severe over North and central Alabama, with the potential for producing 50-60 mph winds, hail to the size of ping pong balls, deadly lightning and very heavy rains.

Be alert to changing conditions and approaching thunderstorms for the next several hours.

Temperatures are rising across the area. It is now 58F at Tuscaloosa, 59F at Meridian and 53F at Birmingham as warmer air advects into the area in the form of a warm front.. This is providing the fuel for storm intensification.
