The weather feels more and more like summer. Birmingham was at 84 degrees at 2:00… still time to reach the forecast high of 86. Nothing on the radar, and we should remain dry through tomorrow. For tomorrow, the GFS is showing 87 for Birmingham, while the NAM prints 85. One way or another, tomorrow will be another dry and very warm day statewide.
LATER IN THE WEEK: Both models keep the chance of any significant precipitation on Wednesday very small despite increasing moisture levels. But, a few scattered afternoon showers or storms could show up by Thursday and Friday as the moisture continues to increase, and a weakness in the upper ridge approaches from the west. No major storm system at all, but just a chance of a passing afternoon shower or storm on both days.
WEEKEND PEEK: That is pretty much our weekend storm. Warm and humid; the sun will be out at times on Saturday and Sunday, and on both days there will be a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon. I expect highs somewhere between 80 and 84 degrees on both days; the GFS MOS looks a little too cool concerning daytime temperatures. If you like the numbers game, the chance of getting a shower or storm over the weekend for any one spot over North or Central Alabama will be about one in three.
LONG RANGE: Still no sign of any really dynamic weather system around here through mid-May. An occasional dissipating cold front will approach, enhancing the chance of scattered showers and storms, but the primary storm track over North America will remain well to the north. Temperatures should average a little above normal.
