THIS AFTERNOON: As advertised, this has been a day of blue sky and sunshine for Alabama; temperatures are generally in the low 80s at mid-afternoon. The humidity is low, and tonight will be fresh and cool with temperatures headed down into the upper 50s early tomorrow.

OUR WEEKEND: No real change tomorrow. Tons o’ sun… low humidity, and comfortable temperatures. The high will be at or just over 80 degrees in most spots. But, on Sunday, the 12Z model runs have come in a little faster with the weak surface front northwest of Alabama, and it looks like we need to introduce the risk of a shower Sunday afternoon, mostly for areas north of Birmingham. The rain won’t be really widespread or especially heavy, but no doubt a shower or two could creep into the state Sunday afternoon and Sunday night.

NEXT WEEK: The surface front will wash out, and the risk of a shower is very small Monday. The sky will be partly sunny with a high in the low 80s. Tuesday and Wednesday look mostly dry, but the 12Z GFS hints a few showers could show up later in the week on Thursday and Friday, but still nothing really heavy or widespread. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Dry and pleasant for the high school football games tonight; the sky will be clear with temperatures falling through the 70s, reaching the 60s by the fourth quarter in many stadiums around here.

Tomorrow, Alabama hosts Ole Miss (5:30p CT kickoff) at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. The sky will be clear; about 80 degrees at kickoff, with temperatures falling through the 70s during the game.

UAB is in Nashville to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores tomorrow evening (6:30p CT kickoff); clear weather is the story there as well with temperatures falling from near 76 at kickoff, into the 60s by the fourth quarter.

Samford and Jacksonville State both have afternoon home games tomorrow; the weather will be great with lots of sun and kickoff temperatures in the low 80s at Birmingham and Jacksonville.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Sunny days, fair nights through the weekend. Highs in the 80s from Panama City over to Gulf Shores.

TROPICS: No sign of development with the wave over the Central Atlantic, and tropical storm formation is not expected through the weekend.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
