A record storm for parts of the Northeast USA.

The powerful low pressure area that semi-cheated Alabama from getting a decent snow was centered off the New England Coast this morning. It was producing 13-foot waves SE of Cape Cod. But look at these overnight snow amounts:

19 inches New York City, official Central Park location (now 23 inches on the ground)
19 inches at Newark Airport
19 inches New Haven, Conn.
17 inches New York (LaGuardia Airport)
13 inches Danbury, Conn., total of 28 inches now on the ground

*1,000 flights canceled in the area.
* Boston has declared a snow emergency
* Many of the cities in that region of the country exhausted their snow-removal bugets several snowstorms ago.
* NYC has now received 37 inches of snow in this January alone (2nd greatest ever)
* At least 1,000 homes/businesses without power
