SOAKER: Rain is widespread across Alabama early this morning, and rain will cover pretty much all of the state at times today as a wave of low pressure moves along a stalled front near the Gulf Coast. A flash flood watch is in effect for parts of Central and South Alabama, where rain amounts will be around one inch today. Amounts for North Alabama will be 1/2 to 1 inch. Continue reading

Clouds cover most of the state, although the sun is breaking through in spots over the Tennessee Valley. ON THE MAPS: A cold front has drifted into far South Alabama this morning, but clouds persist statewide, and light rain is falling in the cool air north of the front. Clouds will hang tough through the day, and we will mention the chance of scattered light rain through the afternoon, but the rain won’t be as heavy or as widespread as yesterday. WET IS THE WORD: Rain is widespread over the northern half of Alabama this afternoon; a flash flood watch is in effect for many counties due to the saturated soil conditions. There are a few embedded thunderstorms within the large rain mass, and SPC maintains a low end, “marginal risk” (level 1/5) of severe storms for much of the state through this evening.
