Breezy And Wet/Isolated Tornadoes Possible
EYES STILL ON IDA: Ida is now a tropical storm this morning over South Mississippi; it will move to a point near Muscle Shoals early tomorrow, keeping Alabama on the wet, unsettled side of the system. Rain is widespread early this morning over West and Southwest Alabama, and that rain will slowly spread over the rest of the state later today and tonight, continuing at times tomorrow. Continue reading
Scattered To Numerous Showers/Storms Through Friday, Then Drier
RADAR CHECK: As expected, we have a number of showers and thunderstorms across Alabama this afternoon in the moist, unstable airmass in place. The most widespread rain is in a broad band from Tuscaloosa and Birmingham to Montgomery and Phenix City at mid-afternoon; heavier storms are producing torrential rain, and a flash flood watch remains in effect for much of North and Central Alabama through tonight. Continue reading
Occasional Showers/Storms Through Mid-Week; Drier This Weekend
UNSETTLED WEATHER CONTINUES: A layer of deep moisture remains over Alabama this morning, and with a broad upper trough nearby, we expect occasional showers and thunderstorms to continue through mid-week. Understand there will be some good breaks in the rain, and you might see the sun at times, but when showers and storms do form they will be very efficient rain producers in this kind of airmass. Continue reading
Occasional Showers/Storms Through Wednesday
RADAR CHECK: At mid-afternoon rain is concentrated over parts of East and South Alabama; heavier downpours are lined up in the broad zone from Mobile to Dothan, and northeast of Birmingham. The sky is mostly cloudy over the rest of the state, although the sun is out over parts of West and Southeast Alabama. Temperatures are well below average, with readings around 80 degrees at most locations. Continue reading
Occasional Showers/Thunderstorms Through Tomorrow
WET PATTERN PERSISTS: A persistent upper trough over the region will keep the weather across Alabama unsettled through the first half of the week. We have a number of showers and storms on radar early this morning, and we expect a mostly cloudy sky through tomorrow statewide with occasional showers and thunderstorms. No risk of organized severe storms, but the stronger ones will produce heavy rain and lots of lightning. Continue reading
Unsettled Weather Through Friday; Drier By The Weekend
RADAR CHECK: We have large areas of rain and embedded thunderstorms across Alabama this afternoon… some of the heaviest rain was over the northwest part of the state at mid-afternoon. The sky is mostly cloudy, and temperatures are mostly in the upper 70s and low 80s. We will maintain the chance of showers tonight as an upper trough remains nearby. Continue reading
Occasional Showers Through Tomorrow; Drier This Weekend
RADAR CHECK: We have large areas of rain on radar this morning across Alabama as an upper trough continues to interact with a very moist airmass. The overall setup won’t change much through tomorrow… the sky will be mostly cloudy with periods of rain and a few thunderstorms likely statewide. Temperatures will likely hold in the 70s all day today, and the high tomorrow will be in the low to mid 80s with only a very limited amount of sun. Continue reading
Wet Start To The Day For Some
RADAR CHECK: A large mass of rain and thunderstorms is moving westward through Central Alabama early this morning; this rain is associated with the remnants of former Tropical Storm Danny, that moved into the South Carolina coast yesterday from the Atlantic. This organized rain area should move out of the state by mid-morning, and for the rest of the day we expect a mix of sun and clouds with just a few scattered showers or storms redeveloping during the afternoon and evening hours. Continue reading
Wet, Unsettled Pattern Continues Across Alabama Today
RADAR CHECK: Another batch of rain and storms is moving through North/Central Alabama early this morning in the moisture laden airmass over Alabama. A flash flood warning is in effect for southern Pickens county until 11:30 a.m. Continue reading
Wet At Times Through Tomorrow; Drier Air Arrives Friday
RADAR CHECK: A batch of rain and thunderstorms is pushing into Northwest Alabama early this morning, otherwise the sky is cloudy statewide. A stalled surface front is parked just north of I-20; north of the front temperatures are in the low 50s, south of the front we are seeing temperatures in the mid to upper 60s. Look for occasional rain and a few thunderstorms statewide through tonight; SPC maintains a “marginal risk” of severe thunderstorms for roughly the southern half of the state, where some small hail and strong, gusty winds are possible.
