Sally To Bring A Big Soaking To Alabama
SCATTERED SHOWERS LATER TODAY: The radar is quiet across most of Alabama early this morning, but we expect scattered showers, and possibly a thunderstorm to form this afternoon and tonight. Isolated Tornadoes Possible This Afternoon Over Northwest Alabama
ACTIVE DAY: The remnant circulation of former Hurricane Laura will turn eastward today, passing north of Alabama. We have a very moist, tropical air mass in place this morning, and as the air heats and becomes more unstable this afternoon there is a chance of a few stronger storms in the spiral bands wrapping into the circulation to the north. With fairly high SRH (Storm Relative Helicity) values, a few storms might show some rotation, and there is the risk of a few isolated, brief tornadoes. Continue reading
Periods Of Rain Today; Eyes On Laura

Unsettled Weather Through The Weekend; Watching The Tropics
RADAR CHECK: Large areas of light to moderate rain are moving across parts of North Alabama early this morning, and as an upper trough persists over the region, we expect a number of showers and thunderstorms across the state today with a mostly cloudy sky. SPC has defined a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) of severe thunderstorms for about the southern half of the state, where the air will be more unstable. Heavier storms this afternoon could produce strong winds and some hail, especially over Central and South Alabama. Continue reading
Wet At Times Through Friday; Eyes On The Tropics
WET SUMMER PATTERN: We are forecasting occasional showers and thunderstorms across much of Alabama through Friday as a tropical airmass remains in place, along with a weak upper trough over the region. While most of the rain will come from noon to midnight, there will be some late night and morning activity as well. In fact, rain is falling on parts of Central Alabama early this morning. Showers will be efficient rain producers in this kind of airmass; some communities saw over two inches of rain yesterday. Continue reading
Wet Weather At Times Through Friday
RADAR CHECK: Showers and thunderstorms have been steadily incasing over the northern half of the state this afternoon in the moist, unstable air over Alabama. Away from the showers, temperatures are near 90, but many places are in the 80s. We will maintain the chance of showers through the night tonight as a broad upper trough forms over the region. Continue reading

UNSETTLED PATTERN CONTINUES: A moist, unstable airmass remains parked over our state this morning, and we have rain falling over a decent part of Central Alabama.
