Occasional Showers/Storms Through Tomorrow
RADAR CHECK: A batch of showers is passing through the northern half of the state early this morning; not much thunder but the rain is heavy in spots. More showers and thunderstorms will form later today in the moist, unstable environment across Alabama, and a few strong storms are possible again. SPC has a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) of severe thunderstorms defined for roughly the southern 2/3 of the state. Continue reading
Occasional Showers/Storms Through Friday
WET PATTERN CONTINUES: An upper low to the west of Alabama will continue to creep eastward in the coming days, and keep the weather rather unsettled across the Deep South through Friday. Today will be mostly cloudy with periods of rain; a few strong thunderstorms are possible this afternoon if the air can become unstable. SPC has most all of the state in a low end, “marginal risk” (level 1/5) of severe thunderstorms. Continue reading
Wet At Times Through Friday
UNSETTLED WEATHER: An upper low over East Texas will drift slowly in our direction in coming days, and will keep an unsettled pattern in place through Friday. This afternoon we have fairly widespread rain over the northern 2/3 of Alabama, and temperatures are only in the low 70s in many areas because of clouds. The average high for Birmingham on May 26 is 84. The air is stable, and we aren’t seeing much lightning. Rain will slowly taper off tonight, but showers could linger after midnight in some spots. Continue reading
Unsettled Weather For Alabama Through Friday
WET PATTERN DEVELOPS: On the maps this morning, there is a large scale upper trough west of the state, moving in our direction. The upward motion associated with the trough, along with increased tropical moisture, will set the stage for unsettled weather for Alabama today, and through the rest of the week. The sky will be generally cloudy each day, and we will forecast occasional showers and thunderstorms. The rain won’t be continuous, of course, but the pattern suggests the potential for beneficial rain through Friday. Continue reading

A larger of rain is moving into the western counties as I write this. Temperatures are generally in the 65-72 degree range; the average high for April 22 at Birmingham is 76. Continue reading

Severe Storms Possible Today Over South Alabama
WET TUESDAY: A large mass of rain with a few elevated thunderstorms will move across the northern half of Alabama today. The air will be cool and stable with temperatures holding in the 50s most of the day, and severe storms are not expected. However, to the south, strong to severe storms are likely over South Alabama. SPC continue to define a “slight risk” (level 2/5) for most of South Alabama, east of a line from Uniontown to Bay Minette. Continue reading
Strong/Severe Storms Possible Tomorrow Evening
WET MONDAY: Rain, mostly light to moderate, continues across parts of North/Central Alabama this afternoon. The sky is cloudy, and temperatures are mostly in the 60s. On the positive side, SPC has removed the “marginal risk” of severe thunderstorms for today and tonight. Rain will diminish this evening, although a few scattered showers could linger through the night. Continue reading
Rain At Times Through Tonight; Dry Tomorrow
RADAR CHECK: Showers cover much of North and West Alabama this afternoon; we note a few thunderstorms over the Tennessee Valley, but they are well below severe limits. Still, SPC maintains a low end, “marginal risk” of severe thunderstorms for North Alabama through the evening hours. There could be a stronger storm with small hail and gusty winds, but the overall risk is very low as the main dynamic support is lifting far to the north of Alabama. Continue reading
Rain Ends Later Today; Dry Tomorrow Through Sunday
STILL WET: Rain is fairly widespread over the northern half of Alabama early this morning, and a few strong to severe storms have popped up over Southeast Alabama, where SPC maintains a risk of severe thunderstorms. Continue reading
