After a Saturday with numerous thunderstorms and some significant rainfall coverage, it looks like we are back to a more scattered pattern of afternoon and early evening showers and thunderstorms for several days. The main reason for the decrease in shower activity is the movement of the remnants of TD5 away from Central Alabama. The remnants will move out over the Gulf on Monday, move slowly westward through Wednesday before it comes back ashore in Central Louisiana. Thursday and Friday it seems to weaken over the Mid-South area of Memphis but then strengthens a bit as it comes BACK across the Alabama-Tennessee border late Saturday and Sunday.
This means that we should see afternoon highs climb back into the lower and mid 90s through much of the upcoming week with daily rain chances. By Saturday and Sunday – next weekend – we could see rain chances go up once again as the remnants of TD5 pay us another visit.
The westerlies remain well north of Central Alabama, so the main active weather pattern remains north of us. The Storm Prediction Center has outlooked Ohio and the area just to the east of that for today. That area shifts over into New England and stretches down into the Mid-Atlantic states on Monday with a slight risk also showing up in eastern Colorado. And the National Hurricane Center is watching the remnants of TD5 which will be moving into a favorable environment for development over the next couple of days. Chances for tropical storm development remain low – around 20 percent.
Further afield, the GFS brings back the “energizer” ridge on the 28th, so no good sign of the heat abating completely for awhile. And at the end of the August, the GFS shows a tropical system in the Atlantic but much further offshore of Jacksonville. Consistency is good in terms of a storm but placement is all over the road as you might expect that far into the future.
