Is is a story of a cold rain at the moment. Scattered light rain has already spread eastward across most of the northern third of Alabama as far east as Anniston.
Temperatures continue to slowly fall.
A wintry mix will start in West Central and NW Alabama in the next few hours and, after about 8 o’clock, along the I-65 corridor and eastward into East Central and Northeast Alabama.
The NWS continues a Winter Weather Advisory as far south as Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Bibb, Chilton, Coosa, Talladaga, Clay and Randolph County. This includes the cities of Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Anniston, Gadsden, Clanton, Centreville, Sylacauga, Talladega, Ashland, Roanoke just to name a few.
Icing problems are expected to be spotty but this can cause some travel problems mainly on bridges and overpasses.. There may be some changes in what is expected where before daybreak and we will update this discussion as needed.
Extreme North Mississippi, mainly from U.S. 82 has a Freezing Rain Advisory.

I just checked outside here in NE Trussville at 3:30 am and it is a steady cold light rain with a temperature of 35.
Radar returns show that the precipitation is a wintry mix over Extreme North Alabama closer to the Tennessee Valley. However, much of that may not be reaching the ground.
