Everyone will be watching every blog post and hanging on every word of every forecast pacakge for the next several days as snow fans breathlessly anticipate a chance to experience even a small frozen precipitation experience in Alabama. It has been a long time since we have had measurable snow in Birmingham.

We definitely see a very cold pattern unfolding across Alabama and much of the nation east of the Rockies. Some folks are going to get snow, even in the South. Now, depending on the systems rotating through the Southeast, it could be I-40 and points north, with memorable snowfalls in places like Nashville and Lousville. Could it occur as far south as I-20? Even further south?

It is hard to tell. The models can only be used to suggest possibilities. And they change their mind frequently, nearly on every run. It is difficult to get a specific consensus.

We will be alert to the possibility that tomorrow night’s rain could change briefly to snow over North Alabama with some leftover snow flutties Sunday morning. Try not to get too excited about it, but we will keep an eye on the possibility that it could turn into something.

The next chance for precipitation comes Tuesday night into Wednesday. Some recent model runs shunt this system down into the Gulf of Mexico, keeping the rain well south of here. Other models paint the chance for rain or snow on Thursday in our parts.

A big cold pattern continues through about February 12th wih additional threats for wintry precipitation coming down the pike at times.

It is just too early to tell. Im fact, it will be nearly impossible to generate specific forecasts about the threat of wintry precipitation until about 24 hours out.

Be patient snow fans…you will be rewarded at some point. Try not to get frustrated, weather skeptics. Rest assured that James, Brian, J.B., Jason and I will be in close coordination all weekend

Get a good night’s rest and we will check things out in the morning. Saturday promises to be a good day weather wise with temperatures warming to near 60F.
